Web Hosting Guide -> Notes about Web Hosting Bandwidth
Problems with high bandwidth sites?
Not a problem with us. We have masses of bandwidth, and as long as we are aware of your needs, we can accommodate you and at an extremely competitive price.
Some hosting providers will charge you for overage on your monthly bandwidth allowance, and we don't mean a fair charge either. Some will just cut your website off altogether. Find out how we handle things.
Bandwidth as its commonly known is in reality data transfer. Bandwidth is completely different although most people confuse the two. Data transfer is the amount of traffic your website generates over a given time frame. Hosting providers will usually assign you a "Data Transfer Limit" when you join them.
How different web hosting providers work with data transfer limits varies a lot. Especially when you exceed it. Some hosting providers will cut your website off completely with no notice.
Others will keep your website up and running, then charge you extra at the end of the month with no advance notice.
We like to do things differently:
If your website traffic is getting close to your Data Transfer Limit we will contact you to let you know.
If your website traffic reaches your Data Transfer Limit, we will contact you again to confirm what action you would like us to take first.
We can either stop your website until the end of the month, or allow your website to keep running without any huge charges (upon very rare occasions we do not have large amounts of bandwidth available for the over use of the service to a large extent, however we will notify you of this if it is the case).
If your website traffic is only slightly over your Data Transfer Limit towards the end of the month (and it appears to be a one off) then we allow for this with no extra charges. However we may suggest you upgrade your web hosting package to one with a higher Data Transfer Limit.
