How websites work - The Basics:
Web Pages:

Web pages are usually made with a computer language called HTML (or Hypertext Mark Up Language). To view web pages, you will need a piece of software that can translate HTML and show it to you. These pieces of software are called Internet Browsers. The most common Internet Browser that people use today is called Internet Explorer, which is made by Microsoft.
Websites - Groups of Web Pages:
A website is group of graphics, web pages, and sometimes other information which are all linked together in various ways. This is called a website. A website can be just a single web page or it can contain thousands of web pages, graphics, videos, etc.
All these files are stored on a computer with a permanant connection to the Internet. This is called a webserver. An Internet address is called a URL (Uniform Resource Location) and is assigned to the website and the files which are in it, so that when an Internet Browser visits a website, it knows where to look.
As you visit a website, you will usually start at its homepage, this page will probably allow you to visit other areas of the website by clicking Hyperlinks. A hyperlink is just an instruction that is sent to your Internet Browser when you click it. This instruction tells your Internet Browser to move to a different web page.
